Mini Gastric Bypass

About Treatment

Mini gastric bypass (MGB), also known as one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB), is a  weight-loss procedure that combines elements of both restrictive and malabsorptive techniques to help patients achieve significant weight loss. In MGB,  creates a small stomach pouch and bypasses a portion of the small intestine to reduce calorie absorption. During MGB, creates a small stomach pouch by dividing the stomach and connecting it to the small intestine at a lower point than in traditional gastric bypass . This results in a shorter limb of the small intestine being bypassed, compared to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB).

Frequently Asked Questions

Restriction: By creating a smaller stomach pouch, the amount of food that can be consumed at one time is significantly reduced.

Malabsorption: By rerouting a portion of the small intestine, the body absorbs fewer calories and nutrients from food.

The benefits of mini gastric bypass include significant and sustained weight loss, improvement or resolution of obesity-related health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, and enhanced quality of life.

The cost may vary depending on the experience of the surgeon, type of bariatric surgery chosen by the patient, severity of the problem, location of the clinic etc.

Recovery after mini gastric bypass varies from person to person but generally involves a hospital stay of 1-2 days and a gradual return to normal activities within 2-4 weeks. Patients are advised to follow a strict postoperative diet and exercise regimen to optimize weight loss and minimize complications.

Weight loss after mini gastric bypass varies depending on factors such as starting weight, adherence to postoperative guidelines, and lifestyle changes. On average, patients can expect to lose 60-70% of their excess body weight within the first 1-2 years after surgery.
